In Conversation: What Is the Search for Lost Species and Why Is It Relevant

“In Conversation: What Is the Search for Lost Species and Why Is It Relevant” will bring together three leaders in species conservation. Barney Long, Senior Director of Conservation Strategies at Re:wild, will discuss the origins and goals of the Search for Lost Species program, providing insights into the importance of rediscovering species not seen in over 10 years. Jon Paul Rodríguez, Chair of the IUCN Species Survival Commission, will contribute his expertise on global conservation priorities and the role of the IUCN Red List in removing the data deficiencies associated with lost species. Beth Shapiro, Chief Science Officer at Colossal Biosciences, will offer a perspective on the technological and funding support driving the search for these species, as her organization helps fund efforts to rediscover Re:wild’s Most Wanted Lost Species. Together, they will explore the relevance of the search in shaping conservation strategies and raising awareness of biodiversity loss.
